JENS MALMGREN I create, that is my hobby.

Violet 26th of February 2017

It is Sunday 26 of February and I am on my way to the second and final session painting Violet.

The plan for today is to do the same as last week but avoid getting lost in details.

Today I bring with me replacement light bulbs for the big lamp at the studio. When that was missing the colors became rather cold bluish and green. Perhaps we can put that lamp in I don’t know. The sketch went really well. She looks nice in the sketch!

Last week I was also struggling with the eyes again. I think that I draw them “fine” but when painting the eyes grows in size. Perhaps I need to give the eyes a special attention. When painting the eyes I don’t have a solid plan. For many other parts I have a standard plan but for the eyes I just let it happen. Then the result is nudging a bit here and a bit there and before you know it the original size is lost and that part have become much bigger it moved up or down or aiming lines are contra the perspective.

So what could a good plan be? I think the first layer dark for the eyelid and pupil and light for the eye-white. Then in the next layer, the thin line of the eyelid lit up on top above the eyelid shadow below the crease of the thin eyelid line. Then on top of the crease lighter again above the eye until the eyebrow. The shadow below the eye needs to be light in the first layer. In the next layer, it will need to be shadows below and above it.

Perhaps I can draw a diagram of this idea.
