A model lying in a pile of pillows
At de Stoker there was a model lying on top of a pile of pillows on 15 January 2012. The unusual pose and angle was a challenge, again. I am up for challenges so no worry. First I made a drawing with charcoal. Instead of discarding the charcoal drawing I saved it because it was quicker to take a new empty panel and start over rather than erasing the panel and then start over. By doing so I had the first attempt on drawing the model still saved.
During the same session I finished the first layer of oil paint on the second panel. On 21 January I had the final chance to paint the model. A few seconds after the session had started I noticed that I had made the leg too long. I started to shorten the leg but this was difficult because I am still working with a rather transparent technique and I would be forced to work much harder to get the paint all over the painting fit in with the fixed leg so I gave up entirely on finalizing the painting. So again I pulled out another panel and started over again.I was running out of time by doing these unfinished experiments. This was the final chance on painting this model. To make things more complex I switched position in the studio to paint her from another angle. The final painting could use some more time but there is something special about it that I like. The face is not alike at all but that is a minor problem. Hard work, great time, better luck next time.
I moved from Sweden to The Netherlands in 1995.
Here on this site, you find my creations because that is what I do. I create.
