Schoolbuilding in Vågdalen, Jämtland

This is the house where I grew up. It was a former school building in Vågdalen in Jämtland, north Sweden. At the moment I made this drawing the house was painted in an almost white paint. Later we painted it in dark red with white trims, the colors houses in Sweden are known for.

I heard that the origin of this red white color scheme on houses originates from the Netherlands. The story says that the Dutch built their houses of a pink kind of stone and they had white trims as well. In Sweden this was very popular so people started paint their tree houses as the Dutch stone houses. As the time went by the pink colored tree houses got darker and darker red.

I moved from Sweden to The Netherlands in 1995.

Here on this site, you find my creations because that is what I do. I create.
