During 2009 I came to the gallery De Stoker just occasionally for model sessions and I did not have much time to work on the fine details of the paintings. I made this painting 22 of November 2009. Usually I could attend one 3 hour session so I had to finish the painting in those 3 hours. It can be highly frustrating to work under time pressure but it can also do something nice to the art. When working fast it can happen that I get “a direct connection between what the eyes can see and what is created on the canvas”. In retrospect I can see that I had problems with making the arms longer but at the time of making this painting I was really proud of the result. I was learning a how to paint a new medium and I was learning how to paint models. That is a whole lot of new things to learn.
