Pumpkin Soup

Already when I placed the ingredients for the pumpkin soup in the shopping trolley it occurred to me that this was really beautiful objects. The supermarket were I buy the grocery has special light in the fruit and vegetables corner so the vegetables look nice. I think it is halogen light.

At home I started to experiment with making a pumpkin soup still life. I made a couple of photos to see how it would look like and it was not bad at all. Especially the kitchen countertop had a nice reflection effect. This countertop is a granite ‘look alike’ material. Also here I have halogen light actually.

I painted the ingredients with acrylic on a hard wood plywood panel. The same as I use for painting with oil. This was 14 November 2011. The onion is painted with gold paint.

This is the ingredients for the soup:
4 cm of leek chopped in pieces.
1 tablespoon of olive oil.
1 clove of garlic, chopped in pieces.
2 teaspoons of curry powder.
1 pinch of cumin powder.
350 g of fresh pumpkin, in pieces.
1 ½ liter chicken broth.
½ teaspoon of sugar.
½ clove of garlic, squeezed.
½ teaspoon of chopped ginger.
250 ml cream.
coriander or parsley leaves.

This is how to make the soup:
Fry the leek in olive oil until it has a golden color in a soup pot. Add garlic chopped in pieces, curry and cumin. Fry the mix while stirring another minute.

Add pumpkin, chicken broth and sugar. Heat the soup until it is almost boiling. Let the soup simmer until the pumpkin is ready.  Don’t let the soup boil, just simmer. Stir regularly.

Puree the soup with a mixer. Add salt, pepper, cumin, ginger and curry according to taste.

When serving it is nice to sprinkle cream over the soup plate and on top of that add coriander or parsley leaves.
